A DUI Charge is a Life Changer
The holidays are wonderful time to celebrate with family and friends. As adults, this may involve consuming alcoholic beverages. Some of our favorite drinks are: Golden Snitch, Riesling, Sam Adams Oktoberfest, etc. Even during these joyous events, we need to be aware of how much we are drinking, especially if you have traveled to the events.
The safest solution is to always having a designated driver, or if you do not have a designated driver, call Uber or Lyft. If you are celebrating with family and/or friends in their homes, consider staying on the couch if a driver service is not an option. Please do not drink or consume drugs and drive. This includes prescription medication that could impair your ability to react while driving especially when mixed with alcohol.
A DUI (Driving Under the Influence) charge is a life changer. More than just a charge that you must appear for in court, a DUI may affect your job, your driving privileges, your finances, your insurance, and even your personal relationships. Even a first offense can carry the penalty of an intoximeter in your car, alcohol/drug classes, VIP (Victim Impact Panel), community service, points on your license which can suspend or revoke your license, and even jail.
For a first-time offender, the maximum penalty for a DUI is 1 year in jail and/or a $1000 fine. The penalties could increase up to 10 years in prison if you incur multiple offenses.
DUIs are serious offenses that require an experienced attorney to help you navigate the process. You should hire an attorney immediately after receiving charges for a DUI, even before you receive a court date.
